An Original Vintage Austrian Film Program (measures 6" x 9" [15 x 23 cm]; 8 pages) (Learn More) Charlie Chan at the Opera, the 1936 H. Bruce Humberstone detective mystery crime thriller ("Warner Oland vs. Boris Karloff"; "Based on the character 'Charlie Chan' created by Earl Derr Biggers"; in a plot that heavily borrows from "The Phantom of the Opera", Karloff is an escapee from an insane asylum who had lost his memory, but now does remember, and hides in an opera house, determined to get revenge on those who tried to murder him 13 years earlier) starring Warner Oland (in the title role as Charlie Chan), Boris Karloff, Keye Luke (as Lee Chan), Charlotte Henry, Thomas Beck, Margaret Irving, and William Demarest. Note that the very first Charlie Chan movie was "House Without a Key" in 1925, with George Kuwa as Chan. In 1927, "The Chinese Parrot" (directed by Paul Leni) starred Sojin Kamiyama as Chan. In 1929 came the third movie, "Behind That Curtain", starring E.L. Park as Charlie Chan. 1931 brought "Charlie Chan Carries On", starring Warner Oland in the first of many movies with him as the Asian detective, and he was later replaced by Sidney Toler and then Roland Winters (there would ultimately be 47 Charlie Chan movies!). Of course, Charlie Chan is one of the most memorable literary creations ever, from author Earl Derr Biggers, but because politically correct-minded people have viewed the character as outdated, the movies are rarely shown, which is a shame! Important Added Info: Note that we have provided an image of four of the pages of this 8-page program (we did this by opening it and laying it flat and photographing the front and back cover together, and two of the interior pages together). You can see the four of the eight pages, and can well determine the exact condition of it from our super-sized image, but realize that there are four pages you are not seeing. But of course this means that the front cover appears in the top right of our image, but normally, the program would be folded down the center and you would view the cover by itself (and it will be sent folded as was originally intended).
