Van Dyke (nominated for the Best Director Academy Award for this film) California historical romantic melodrama ("They were born to fall in love!"; nominated for the Best Picture Academy Award; it included a recreation of the famous San Francisco earthquake and fire!) starring Clark Gable, Jeanette MacDonald (billed as "Together for the first time in San Francisco"), Spencer Tracy (nominated for the Best Actor Academy Award for this film), Jack Holt, Ted Healy (most famous as the person who started The Three Stooges; they were first billed as "Ted Healy and his Stooges"; he let them go on their own, hiring replacement "Stooges", but that did not work out well at all!), Margaret Irving, and Jessie Ralph NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that the lobby card says "AN METRO-GOLDWYN-MAYER MASTERPIECE REPRINT" in the bottom right. This was a terminology used by MGM at this time for some re-releases, and it has caused some collectors to be confused!
