Date Sold 2/10/2009Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Paperbacked Window Card Movie Poster (WC; measures 13 3/4" x 22") (Learn More) The Eagle and the Hawk, the 1933 Stuart Walker World War I (WWI) military romantic love triangle Royal Air Force Squadron airplane aviation fighter pilot thriller ("They dedicated their lives... to Death!"; "Live with Men who don't live long!"; "By the author or 'Wings'"; a wild story of American pilots in the RAF in World War I; an ace pilot has great animosity for an "observer", the person who flies with the pilot and helps spot the enemy, but they must fly missions together; the pilot finally succumbs to the endless stress and commits suicide, and the observer wants him to remain a hero, so he takes his body up in a plane and makes it look like he was killed in action) starring Fredric March, Cary Grant, Carole Lombard (third billed in this war movie, in a small role, playing "The Beautiful Lady"!), Jack Oakie, and Guy Standing. Note that this was still early enough in Cary Grant's career that he had the unsympathetic role of the observer, while Fredric March had the glamorous role of the ace war pilot! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this poster has been paperbacked. What is paperbacking? This means the poster was backed onto a paper backing (acid-free), that is similar in feel to that of the original poster (except somewhat heavier). It is a similar process to linenbacking, except that most collectors use linenbacking for one-sheets and paperbacking for half-sheets, inserts, window cards, and lobby cards. Condition: fair to good. The poster had much staining throughout, with creases and tears in parts of the borders, and a T-shaped tear in the middle left of the poster with some small paper loss at the top of it. Whoever backed the poster simply mounted it onto the paper backing doing the slightest of minor restoration, but you can clearly see the above defects. It displays somewhat alright as it is, but certainly, the new owner might consider having additional restoration performed, likely including re-backing the card. Please do not bid on this card unless you have carefully read the above and have studied our super-sized image of this poster! Learn More about condition grades
