Date Sold 7/8/2018Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Autographed Matted Original Vintage 10" x 13" Still (entire display measures 15" x 20") (Learn More) Myrna Loy was an actress from the 1920s to the 1980s. She was born Myrna Adele Williams in 1905, and amazingly, she made 78 movies between 1925 and 1933, and she FINALLY got her big break when she signed with MGM, and the next year she made both "The Thin Man" and "Manhattan Melodrama", and the rest, as they say, was history! But what took Hollywood and film goers so long to recognize her amazing beauty and talent? In her early years of making movies, her "exotic" look led her to sometimes be cast as an Asian or Polynesian! She remained a major box office star for over two decades, and she had wonderful chemistry with ALL of her leading men, including William Powell, Cary Grant, Clark Gable, and many others! Some of her other movies include: The Best Years of Our Lives, Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House, The Thin Man, Cheaper By the Dozen, and countless others. She passed away in 1993 at the age of 88. Important Added Info: Note that this 10x13 still has been professionally matted by the photographer (who signed his name on the matte) and the matte was also personally autographed (signed) by Myrna Loy (she wrote "For Arthur Yarborough, With my compliments on your exquisite work")! The entire display measures 15" x 20". The matted still is not dated in any way, but Miss Loy looks EXTREMELY young in the photo (and we have seen where another auction auctioned similar photos from the same photographer, and they said they were circa 1925, when Miss Loy was just 20 years old!). There is a photographer's ink credit stamp on the back reading "Yarborough / Honolulu, T.H." Our consignor purchased this from a major auction house, and they did not provide a Certificate of Authenticity, but we are certain both signatures are authentic. As is true of all the signed items we are currently auctioning, we give every buyer 30 days in which to review what they purchased and they can return any item as long as it is within 30 days of the end of the auction. On non-signed items, we give a "lifetime guarantee" on everything we auction, but on signed items, we give the above modified guarantee of 30 days after the auction closes. Condition: good. The photo has uneven discoloration, typical of vintage silver gelatin prints from this time. The matte has some small paper loss and staining in parts of the borders, and a tape repair in the top left corner. When one looks closely at the image, the discoloration is very noticeable, but from a reasonable viewing distance, this wonderful photo will display well on the new owner's wall!
