Date Sold 10/3/2021Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. a lot of 2 German programs from German showings of Phantom. One of the programs seems to be from the opening performance of this movie in Berlin, with a long tribute to author Gerhart Hauptmann, who had written the original novel that von Harbou adapted into this movie, and it appears that he appeared in person at this premiere. The other local theater program is for a benefit performance of the movie shown five days later. Phantom is the 1922 F.W. Murnau German surreal romance-that-never-was melodrama (written by Thea von Harbou; about an unhappy aimless young man who meets a beautiful woman literally driving a chariot pulled by horses, and he becomes obsessed with her, but he can't have her, and ultimately, he gives his life for her) starring Alfred Abel, Frida Richard, Aud Egede Niffen, Lil Dagover, and Lya de Putti. Note that this movie, which is forgotten today, except by major film buffs, was thought to be lost, but was rediscovered. Its plot bears striking similarities to the 1930 German classic "Der blaue Engel" (The Blue Angel)! Note that the items in this lot are from 1922. We do not provide a list of these items, but there are images of all of them (there are three images of one program and one image of the other).
