Also included is a Western Union telegram that measures 6 1/2" x 8" (Learn More) Al Jolson was a legendary actor/singer from the 1920s to the 1940s. He was the number one star of Broadway in the 1920s, and was called "the world's greatest entertainer", and Warner Bros. chose him to star in the first "talking movie", The Jazz Singer, which was based on a play about Jolson's life (but oddly, George Jessel played the role on Broadway!). AND Carmel Myers was an actress from the 1910s to the 1950s. She was Jewish, with an Australian father and Austrian mother. She had great success starting in the late 1910s, and she successfully made the transition to sound movies, but because she was then in her 30s, she had to switch to character roles, and she pretty much retired, although she came out of retirement occasionally for a few film parts, and she had also her own TV show in 1951. Some of her movies include: the 1925 version of Ben-Hur, Intolerance, Tell It to the Marines, Show of Shows, and Svengali Important Added Info: Note that this is a really cool set of two items! First is a vintage 7 1/2" x 10" [19 x 25 cm] photograph (by Dick Whittington) from 1934, which shows Al Jolson, Carmel Myers, Lionel Barrymore, Victor Young, the Watson Sisters, and Vince Barnett. It was the personal property of Carmel Myers, and she taped a piece of paper to the front of the still that told about the people pictured (that paper has come loose, and has been attached to the back of the still with clear tape). There are pieces of clear tape on the lower left of the front of the still, where the piece of paper was attached. The other item is a Western Union telegram that Al Jolson sent to Carmel Myers on October 28, 1926, while she was on board a railroad train (he wrote a message about her illness, hoping she was better, and saying that "even though you pile up the miles between us, you can't get beyond my reach"). Both items are from the personal collection of Carmel Myers. Condition: good to very good. The still has pieces of clear tape in the bottom left where the piece of paper was attached. They are not very noticeable, and could be removed by a professional. There are some creases in three corners and a few faint creases and scuffs scattered in the still. The telegram was once folded and has many creases. It has stains in the blank bottom and small stains in the blank top (see our images). Learn More about condition grades
