An Original 1937 (from the first release of this movie in Italy) Vintage Theatrical Folded Italian Three-Panel Movie Poster (3p; measures 39 1/4" x 80 1/2" [100 x 204 cm]) (Learn More) San Francisco, the 1936 W.S. Van Dyke (nominated for the Best Director Academy Award for this film) California historical romantic melodrama ("They were born to fall in love!"; nominated for the Best Picture Academy Award; it included a recreation of the famous San Francisco earthquake and fire!) starring Clark Gable, Jeanette MacDonald (billed as "Together for the first time in San Francisco"), Spencer Tracy (nominated for the Best Actor Academy Award for this film), Jack Holt, Ted Healy (most famous as the person who started The Three Stooges; they were first billed as "Ted Healy and his Stooges"; he let them go on their own, hiring replacement "Stooges", but that did not work out well at all!), Margaret Irving, and Jessie Ralph NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned this Italian poster, which is an extremely rare pre-World War II Italian three-panel poster! Also note that Italian posters from the first few years after World War II and earlier are among the most rare posters there are, and they were almost all not the standard Italian sizes that became standard in the late 1940s (the 39x55 one-panel, the 55x78 two-panel, etc). These are likely so rare because there were still major paper shortages in Italy right after World War II, and few posters were printed, and most were recycled. This is an extremely rare first release Italian poster from 1937, and it is a three-panel poster, but the three panels when joined measure 39 1/4" x 80 1/2" (later, when there would be a standard Italian three-panel size, they measured 55" x 114". Also note that this Italian poster was printed in 3 sections designed to overlap. Also note that the theater that used this poster glued the pieces together before putting them on display (this is typical of many actual theater-used posters in multiple pieces). Condition: good. The theater that used this poster glued the pieces together before putting them on display (this is typical of many actual theater-used posters in multiple pieces). There are some faint brown stains and tack holes around the edges, with a few faint stains scattered throughout the poster. Learn More about condition grades
