Important Added Info: Note that this title lobby card is one of the most rare first release movie paper items from this all time classic horror movie. RKO knew that this movie would be a giant hit, and in the pressbook, they announced that they made far more posters than normal, so that every theater could order lots of them. But they apparently did not do the same with the lobby cards, especially this title lobby card, because it is quite rare, and we have only auctioned it once before, which was 19 years ago! Note that this lobby card has been paperbacked. What is paperbacking? This means the lobby card was backed onto a very light paper backing (acid-free), that keeps the "feel" of the lobby card similar to that of the original lobby card. Some restorers prefer to paperback lobby cards on to a heavy backing, while others prefer to use a very lightweight backing. The advantage of a lightweight backing is that the card still "feels" like a regular lobby card, but a heavier backing makes restoration easier to do and less noticeable. Also note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has. What IS paperbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good. Prior to paperbacking, the card had been displayed and the reds in the card have faded somewhat. It also had diagonal paper loss in the top corners, slightly affecting the yellow background in the top right corner and affecting the first "O" of the first "OUT" in the top left corner. There were pinholes and small paper loss in the rest of the borders, slightly entering the image. There was a tear and paper loss in the lower left border that entered Cabot's hair, forehead, and eyebrow. There was a pinhole near the center of the image and some pinholes, smudges, and stains scattered throughout the card. Overall, the lobby card was in fair condition prior to paperbacking. Given the card's defects described above, it was pretty well backed, and it displays pretty well, but please bear in mind its condition issues and its restoration before placing a bid on it. Obviously, one would prefer to find an example in better condition, but given that it has been nearly 20 years since we last auctioned it, it may well be another 20 years before we get another example to auction!
