An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded Russian Export (printed for use in Finnish speaking countries) Movie Poster (measures 22 1/2" x 34 3/4" [57 x 88 cm]) (Learn More) Chapaev (released in English-speaking countries as "Chapayev"), the 1934 Sergei & Georgi Vasilyev Russian biographical military war melodrama (set during the Russian Revolution, a biography of the real life Commander of the 25th Division of the Red Army, Vasili Ivanovich Chapayev, who was a peasant who joined the Red Army and rose to lead an army of peasants like himself, but due to his military brilliance, he never lost a battle against the White Army) starring Boris Babochkin (in the title role as Chapayev), Leonid Kmit, Varvara Myasnikova, Boris Blinov, and Illarion Pevtsov. This movie received the first prize "Silver Cup" of the Moscow International Film Festival in 1935, and the "Grand Prix" at the World Expo in Paris in 1937! Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned this poster, which is a 1940 "country of origin" poster for this Russian movie! Also note that this Russian poster was printed in Russia, but was intended to be used when the movie was shown in Finnish speaking areas. Finally, note that this poster was folded at one time but has been laying flat for a long time and will be sent rolled in a tube. Note that this poster is one of a collection of 36 similar posters that we were consigned (and are currently auctioning in 36 separate auctions). They include Russian, Uzbek, Ukranian, and Latvian posters, and some of them are movie posters, and others are circus posters, with a few other kinds of posters. All of these posters are incredibly rare, and on the vast majority of them, we have never auctioned them before, and it may be many years before we auction any of them again.
