An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded Style D One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) Shadow of the Thin Man, the 1941 W.S. Van Dyke husband/wife detective mystery crime comedy sequel ("The first Thin Man picture in 2 years - and it's a honey!"; one of the very popular "Thin Man" movies) starring William Powell (as Nick Charles), Myrna Loy (as Nora Charles), Barry Nelson, Donna Reed (in her second movie role!), Richard 'Dickie' Hall (as Nick Jr.), Asta (their dog, who was very popular!), Stella Adler, Sam Levene, Oliver Blake, Alan Baxter, Henry O'Neill, and wrestler Tor Johnson. Stella Adler was part of one of the most famous Jewish acting families ever, which included her parents Jacob and Sarah Adler, and her brothers Charles, Jay, and Luther. She was one of the people involved in the founding of the Group Theatre in 1931, and later married Harold Clurman, one of the founders. According to Marlon Brando, she was obsessed with becoming a traditional Hollywood leading lady, and had a nose job in 1937, and began acting under the name "Stella Ardler" in "Love On Toast", but she did not achieve the success in Hollywood she so wanted, and she pretty much quit acting in movies after that, except for a few minor roles. She became an acting teacher and was a mentor to the very young Marlon Brando, and was one of the early proponents of "The Method", a revised acting technique derived from, but different from, the method used at the Group Theatre in the 1930s. We have never auctioned this style D poster in all our years of auctioning, and we have only auctioned two examples of the style C poster for this movie (in 2011 and 2017, and the last one sold for $1,303!). Condition: good to very good. The poster has a few pinholes along portions of the upper blank border. There is a tiny pinhole in the lower blank border and there is one to the right of Powell's tie at center. It has an extra vertical crease to the right of the regular vertical foldline (slightly more noticeable in Powell's hat at upper right) and there are some tiny dot stains under the title at lower left, and in the word "FIRST" in the taglines at lower left (see our image). It has minor fold wear, with a few tiny creases along the upper horizontal fold, and some wear along the outer edge of the lower blank border. It is otherwise in pretty nice condition, and after a pretty simple linenbacking the ultra rare poster will look fantastic! Learn More about condition grades
