A Folded Special Poster (measures 14" x 22" [36 x 56 cm]) (Learn More) No Smoking While Traveling, the 1955 public service poster ("Smoking while traveling in National Forest timber, brush or grass areas is prohibited during the forest fire season by Federal Trespass Regulation T-1 [H]") advertising the U.S. Department of Agriculture's forest fire prevention campaign and featuring art of Smokey the Bear. Here is some background on Smokey the Bear: In 1944 the U.S. Forest Service issued a poster featuring "Smokey Bear", and he wore jeans and a campaign hat (what we now call a ranger hat). His slogan was "Smokey says - Care will prevent 9 out of 10 forest fires!". Over the next decade, Smokey would change in appearance as the artist who drew him changed, and he would get the slogan "Remember! Only you can prevent forest fires", and eventually, he became "Smokey the Bear"! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this special poster (which was printed on a heavy paper, the same as window cards from this period) was folded in half, and because it was folded perfectly in half, it can be sent in one of our standard size mailers.
