An Original Studio Rental Agreement, Stationery (two different), and Envelope (ranging in size from 4 3/4" x 11" to 9" x 14 1/4") (Learn More)

Norman Films was an American film studio and distributor in Jacksonville, Florida from 1920 to the 1940s. Founded by Richard Edward Norman, the studio produced films featuring all-African-American casts with protagonists in positive roles. The studio produced eight feature length films and numerous shorts, and its only surviving film, The Flying Ace, has been restored by the Library of Congress. The studio transitioned to distribution and promotion after the rise of talking pictures (they experimented with the sound-on-disc method which proved to be problematic), and eventually closed. In modern times, the studio's facilities were restored and re-purposed as the Norman Studios Silent Film Museum which has been designated a National Historic Landmark.

Important Added Info: Note that this auction is for four items from this studio that made black African American movies. There is a printed envelope with the studio logo in the top left corner, printed stationery with a picture of the studio and printed information at the top, different printed stationery with text only at the top and bottom, and a rental agreement titled "Colored Picture Rental Franchise", which lists all of the 20 Norman films that could be rented (the rental agreement is printed on the front and back, so we have pictured both sides)!

Condition: very good. The two pieces of stationery are in nice condition, as is the envelope. The rental agreement has three tears in the right border, one in the left border, and some creases in the top and bottom.
