An Original Vintage Theatrical 8" x 10" Movie Still (Learn More) Stolen Heaven, the 1931 George Abbott bittersweet romantic crime melodrama ("They vowed to die - yet they fought to live!"; "'Stolen Heaven' is the story of a boy and a girl, clinging to the last straw of existence, who meet and plan a unique pact - a whirlwind short life of pleasure and then oblivion."; "But a peculiar twist of events changes the fate they had chosen."; based on the story by Dana Burnet; about a pretty streetwalker whose boyfriend steals $20,000, with their plan being to spend the money in a spree, and then commit suicide!; but after he robs the money and they have time to think about it, they change their mind and he confesses and goes to jail, feeling that she will surely wait for him, no matter how long it takes!) starring Nancy Carroll, Phillips Holmes, Louis Calhern, Edward Keane, and Joan Carr. Note that Phillips Holmes had made an impression in some movies in the late 1920s. In 1931, he would get the lead in the first version of "An American Tragedy", which made it seem like he would become a major star, but that didn't materialize. He had a major affair with Libby Holman, but that was certainly complicated, and when they broke up, she immediately married his brother! Oddly, years later, Holman would have another very complicated affair with Montgomery Clift, who played the same part in the remake of "An American Tragedy", retitled "A Place in the Sun". Sadly, Holmes died in a plane crash in 1942. I am very surprised no one has made a movie about his life, or a joint movie about him and Libby Holman! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography.
