Heroes All, the 1931 Anthony Young World War I (WWI) military documentary ("An Authentic Epic of War on Land - Sea and Air"; "An epic of the World War on land sea and air") featuring John J. Bradley, Anthony Young, and Emile Gauvreau. Note that there is some mystery surrounding this movie! Based on 1931 newspaper articles, it seems that while the footage was shot during World War I, it was not put together into a film with narration and a prologue until 1931. Colonel Anthony Young edited the film and provided the narration, while General John J. Bradley and journalist Emile Gauvreau "discuss the horrors of war" in the prologue. However, there may have been another short from 1920 with the same title. In 2009, a short called Heroes All, which was produced by the Red Cross Bureau of Pictures, was added to the National Film Registry, and it "examines returning wounded WWI veterans and their treatment at Walter Reed Hospital, along with visits to iconic Washington, D.C., landmarks." But there is no mention of the Red Cross or medical treatment of veterans in the 1931 newspaper articles, and no sign of them in the lobby cards we have seen. Articles say the film shows ground battles, aerial combat and "various personalities of the war", and this matches the lobby cards. The articles go on to say that "for women, Heroes All has no appeal" which is likely not the case for a film featuring Red Cross doctors and nurses treating veterans after the war. Because of this, we feel it is likely that there are two films with the same name, and the information has become "jumbled" on sites like IMDB. If anyone knows more about this movie, please e-mail us and we will post it here. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.
