An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie 7 3/4" x 10" [20 x 25 cm] Key Book Still (Learn More) Zane Grey's Nevada, the 1927 John Waters silent romantic love triangle cowboy western melodrama ("From the novel by Zane Grey"; about a pair of cattle rustlers who want to go straight, but one gets involved with the sister of the man they work for, and there are other problems too!) starring Gary Cooper (in the title role as Nevada), Thelma Todd (in her third credited movie role!), William Powell (in one of his early silent roles, playing a "heavy", before he became a top star once he made talking pictures and people heard his wonderful voice), Phillip Strange, and Ernie Adams NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that Gary Cooper was very devoted to his mother, and we have auctioned candids of him with her from several of his movies. This is one of his earliest starring roles, and we wish we knew more about this still, including what books they are reading! If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Note that this is one of ten wonderful Gary Cooper stills from the late 1920s and early 1930s that we were consigned, and are auctioning in ten separate auctions. Each comes from the same collection that contained the twenty rare Gary Cooper stills from the same time period that we auctioned in February 2021, and those were truly wonderful stills, and three of them auctioned for over $1,000 each, and the current ten stills include some equally wonderful ones! These stills were purchased by celebrity Johnny Crawford many years ago, when he purchased an incredible collection of stills that also included great early Laurel and Hardy stills (and we also have eight of those in eight separate auctions). Mr. Crawford first came to fame as the son in the TV series "The Rifleman" and later became a band leader loved movies, and early on he collected many stills and lobby cards. These ten rare early Gary Cooper stills were consigned to us from his collection! Note that this still is a key book still, mounted to a linen backing. Many studios spent extra money to have their most special photos, the key book stills, either backed with linen or printed on a heavy paper, both of which enhanced their durability. They had an extra 1" at the left or top, with punch holes, because of how they were stored. Key book stills are far more rare than regular stills, which has increased their popularity among collectors, since only a few keybooks were manufactured per film, and a key book still is guaranteed to be authentic. Someone trimmed away the extra 1" from the left of the still. Condition: very good. The left 1" was neatly trimmed off (see above). Otherwise, the still is in pretty nice condition!
