Date Sold 11/23/2021Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Card (LC; measures 10 3/4" x 14" [27 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) The Blood Ship, the 1927 George B. Seitz silent sailing romantic melodrama ("The mightiest of all sea dramas"; "From the story by Norman Springer"; a wild story of a ship captain whose ship is hijacked and his wife and daughter kidnapped by a truly evil man, and he tries to rescue his wife and daughter by signing on as a crewman on the evil man's ship, and a handsome young crewman, who has fallen in love with the daughter, helps him) starring Hobart Bosworth, Jacqueline Logan, Richard Arlen ("Courtesy of Paramount"), Walter James, Fred Kohler, James Bradbury Sr., Arthur Rankin, Syd Crossley, Frank Hemphill, Chappell Dossett, and Blue Washington (one of the many talented black African American actors of the 1920s and 1930s who were forced to take stereotyped roles, due to the prejudices of the time; Washington was unusual among black actors at this time, because although he appeared in minor roles in such major movies as King Kong and Hallelujah, and became friendly with John Ford and Frank Capra, he saw how limited his movie career would be, and he became an LAPD police officer, but he continued to make movies steadily until 1953, and then made one final appearance in The Hustler in 1961!). Note that this was one of the earliest movies from Columbia Studios NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that ANY movie paper items from this movie are incredibly rare. We have only previously auctioned a set of six lobby cards (20 years ago), a title card, a single 8x10 still, and a Danish program from this movie (and NO other movie paper of any kind) until we received this lobby card! Also note that this lobby card has been trimmed and it now measures 10 3/4" x 14" [27 x 36 cm]. Also note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has. Condition: fair to good. The entire card has darkened somewhat. A tiny bit of the bottom blank border was trimmed off. It has tack holes, smudges, and small stains around the edges, with tiny paper loss in the top right blank corner. There are a few tiny stains scattered in the image. The card was used in South America and has a snipe for Max Glucksmann in the upper left. This is the sort of card that responds really well to professional restoration. It is likely that much or all of the smudges and stains can be removed through chemical means, and of course, most of the pinholes are in the blank borders, and after proper restoration, the card will display well. Please look closely at our images of the front and back of this card before bidding. Note that this card is completely unrestored and there is not a single piece of tape on either the front or back!
