Ulmer Iraq Arabian desert romantic adventure melodrama ("The shapes that shook a Harem Empire!"; "SEE! Beautiful love-captives sold into slavery!"; "SEE! The spectacular bath of the harem queens!"; "The Arabian Nights never saw nights like this!"; "Wait till you see Gypsy Rose Lee let her hair down in a harem!"; "All Its Spectacle Captured In EXOTIC COLOR"; "1001 adventures... 1001 delights... When lives were bought by treachery and love was sold on the slave block!!") starring Paulette Goddard, Gypsy Rose Lee, Richard Ney, John Boles, Thomas Gallagher, Sebastian Cabot, MacDonald Parke, Natalie Benesh, Hugh Dempster, and Peter Bathurst. Note that there is a really interesting oddity about this movie. The producers of this movie intended for it to use Cinefotocolor, a new, Spanish color process utilizing a chemical dye process and a special camera. Perhaps because of the added expense of this new process, they came up with the idea of simultaneously filming a Spanish language version called "Muchachas de Bagdad", with the same lead actors, but with different supporting cast (this had been done by many studios in 1930-1932, but it was abandoned after that). The alternate version was filmed and released in Spanish-speaking countries, but movie paper of any kind of it is incredibly rare. The director of the English-language version was Edgar Ulmer, but he was co-director on the Spanish-language version with Jernimo Mihura, and there were other people who solely worked on the Spanish-language version. There are apparently some differences between the two versions. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Condition: good to very good. There is light rippling and discoloration throughout some of the cards from exposure to moisture. Each card has several pinholes around the edges (with some scattered within the image) and light scuffs and smudges scattered in various areas. Learn More about condition grades
