She was one of the top silent actresses, who specialized in playing young girl roles as an adult, and she was called "America's Sweetheart", and when she married Douglas Fairbanks, Sr. in 1920, the country rejoiced (and the country mourned when they divorced in 1936!). Some of her movies include: Little Annie Rooney (in the title role), Sparrows, My Best Girl, Coquette (winner of the Best Actress Academy Award for this film; in the title role), and Tess of the Storm Country. She passed away in 1979 at the age of 87. Important Added Info: Note that this letter has been personally autographed (signed) by Mary Pickford (on her personal stationery; she signed as "Mary")! Also note that this auction also includes the envelope this letter was originally mailed in. Note that this signed item comes from the collection of Lily Mae Caldwell, who was a newspaper film reviewer for many years, starting in the early 1930s and continuing into the 1970s. During her career she met many celebrities, both in person and through correspondence, and over that time she acquired a number of signed items. This item was found in her estate, and while a Certificate of Authenticity does not come with this item, we are certain that the autograph on this item is surely authentic.
