An Original Vintage Paperbacked World War I Poster (measures 20" x 30" [51 x 76 cm]) (Learn More) For Home and Country, the 1919 U.S. post-World War I (WWI) War Bonds poster ("Victory Liberty Loan") encouraging people to buy war bonds, and featuring Alfred Everitt Orr art of a decorated soldier joyously reunited with his wife and young son Artist: Alfred Everitt Orr Important Added Info: Note that this poster has been paperbacked. What is paperbacking? This means the poster was backed onto a light paper backing (acid-free), that is similar in feel to that of the original poster (it means that the poster must be handled carefully, as the backing does not give it much added strength, but it is similar to having an unrestored poster, and yet it has been properly preserved). It is a similar process to linenbacking, except that most collectors use linenbacking for one-sheets and paperbacking for half-sheets, inserts, window cards. Also note that because this poster was paperbacked onto a thinner paper backing, it COULD be sent rolled, but we would MUCH prefer to send it in a large flat package (because we fear that rolling it, even into a wide tube, would have an excellent change of damaging it, so we will only send it in a tube if the buyer insists, and then they would be responsible for any damage), but otherwise, we will ship it in a very large flat package, so bear that expense in mind before bidding on this poster. What IS paperbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good. Prior to paperbacking, the poster had a cut or tear in the upper center that ran through the child's shoulder and through the upper lip of the soldier into the background beside his head. It had some creases scattered down the left, with a few tears in the borders. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to paperbacking. Someone backed the poster onto a thin paper backing with no excess, and they performed restoration to the above cut or tear, and perhaps it was not very noticeable when it was first done, but now it is very noticeable so bear this in mind and look at our super-sized image before bidding on this poster.
