An Original Vintage Movie Trade Ad (measures 9" x 12" [23 x 30 cm]; 2 pages) (Learn More)

Three Wise Fools, the 1946 Edward Buzzell juvenile family relationship fantasy comedy melodrama ("A masterpiece of entertainment!"; "Based upon the play by Austin Strong"; about three crotchety old men, who are the most successful in a small town, and they live together because 50 years before they were spurned by the same woman, who then married and moved to Ireland, and they are happy enough, but then they are sent a 7 year-old girl, who is the granddaughter of the woman who spurned them, and the girl has inherited a house they want to give to the city, but she won't sell it, because she believes that leprechauns live there, and the old men think they can convince her to sell it, but of course, she instead completely changes them!) starring Margaret O'Brien ("The darling of the screen"), Lionel Barrymore, Lewis Stone, Edward Arnold, Ray Collins, Jane Darwell, Charles Dingle, Cyd Charisse, Harry Davenport, and Thomas Mitchell. Note that this was a remake of a 1923 silent movie, and it is entertaining, but the most enjoyable aspect is Margaret O'Brien's performance. She plays a 7 year old, but she was 9 in real life, and she has to play the entire role with a very thick Irish accent, which she does very convincingly! In addition, the producers rounded up a lot of "little people" to play many of the leprechauns, and those fantasy sequences which frame the movie are very interesting.

Artist: Al Hirschfeld
Important Added Info: From the 1920s on, studios would create elaborate trade ads, often in full color, and often using the finest artists of the day. They would run these ads in their studio yearbooks and exhibitor magazines, and they would also print those trade ads separately and mail them individually to theater owners, trying to get them to book that specific movie. Sometimes those books and magazines are separated and the ads, which now greatly resemble the individually printed trade ads, are sold individually. The trade ad offered here was printed individually. It can be framed and displayed (but many trade ads have different images on each side, so one must choose which side to display if it is framed!).
