An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Mexican Movie Poster (measures approximately 27" x 37" [69 x 94 cm]) (Learn More) La Virgen Roja (literally translates to "The Red Virgin"), the 1943 Francisco Elias Mexican romantic melodrama starring Anita Blanch, Manolita Arriola, Miguel Inclan, Jose Baviera, and Florencio Castello. It appears this movie was never released in the U.S. We were unable to find out anything more about this movie, or the meaning of its unusual title. We have auctioned two different country of origin Mexican posters from this movie, and both appear to be from the first release. They have very different art from each other, but both show the heroine dressed in red! If anyone knows more about this movie, please e-mail us and we will post it here. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned this Mexican poster, which is a "country of origin" poster for this Mexican movie (it is one of the two posters referred to in the description above)! Note that this linenbacked Mexican poster (and 98 others, which we are auctioning in 99 separate auctions) comes from a remarkable collection of Mexican posters which was assembled over many decades! We auctioned the first 81 of these in our August 2023 Major Auction, and those included many great rarities, and they sold for as much as $2,505, but there were also a number of great bargains that sold for well under the cost of linenbacking alone! Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster had some tiny bits of paper loss on parts of the folds and the borders have darkened somewhat. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. The restorer backed the poster "in the European style", meaning that they did not do restoration to the defects described above. Learn More about condition grades
