eMoviePoster.comAuction History Result 4x036 FRANKENSTEIN tear sheet '31 I made him with my own hands but didn't give him a soul! Date Sold 11/6/2012Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Movie Tear Sheet (measures 9 1/2" x 14") (Learn More) Frankenstein, the classic 1931 James Whale Universal monster horror thriller ("The monster that terrorized the world!"; "The Man Who Made a Monster"; "Warning! The monster is loose!"; "Based upon the Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley Story"; "Adapted by John L. Balderston from the play by Peggy Webling"; the first of the Universal "Frankenstein" movies, and regarded as one of the finer movies of any genre, in large part due to the marvelous acting of Boris Karloff, and the marvelous direction of James Whale!) starring Colin Clive (as Dr. Herbert V. Frankenstein), Boris Karloff (as the Frankenstein monster), Edward Van Sloan, Fredric Kerr, Mae Clarke, Dwight Frye (extremely memorable as Fritz), and John Boles NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that this is a "tear sheet" that was created in 1931 before the movie was released. I have never heard an exact definition of what these were and what they were used for, but the ones I have auctioned over the years have come from former theater owners (and they referred to them as "tear sheets"), and I believe they were sent to them prior to a movie's release, in an attempt to get them to book the movie. They definitely were NOT cut out of a pressbook or magazine, and they definitely were created prior to the movie's release! I have seen some similar promo material that was sent to theater owners where they were several pages joined together at the top and they had perforations so they could be torn out, and that might be where the name "tear sheet" came from (but this tear sheet is definitely not perforated or removed from something). If anyone knows more about tear sheets, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Condition: very good to fine. The tear sheet has a fold across the middle at a slight diagonal with the tiniest of separation at the ends of the fold and the slightest of darkening in the left edge. This would look incredible framed on anyone's wall! Learn More about condition grades
