An Original Vintage Theatrical Chapter #7 (The Leopard's Lair) Movie Lobby Card (LC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) Tarzan the Mighty, the 1928 Jack Nelson & Ray Taylor silent jungle action adventure serial ("An original serial produced by Universal Pictures Corp. by special arrangement with Edgar Rice Burroughs, author of 'Tarzan of the Apes' and 'The Cave Girl'") starring Frank Merrill (in the title role as Tarzan), Natalie Kingston, Al Ferguson, Bobby Nelson, Lorimer Johnston (as Lord Greystoke), and Charles Gemora (as both Taug the Gorilla and Toka the Gorilla!). Note that this is a "lost" film. Also note that this serial was originally intended to star Joe Bonomo, famous strongman, but he was injured working on a different movie, and he was replaced by Frank Merrill, who had a fantastic physique, but in this movie, he wore a very modest outfit that covered most of his torso! Also note that this movie was supposedly based on the Edgar Rice Burroughs novel "Jungle Tales of Tarzan", but it took great liberties with the plot. Tarzan finds a pair of brother and sister castaways on a jungle island, and he rescues them and brings them back to civilization. Finally, note that starting in 1929 and continuing into the 1940s, Charles Gemora played gorillas in many movies, likely because he owned a gorilla suit, and could do a somewhat convincing job portraying a gorilla. Just a few years later, Ray 'Crash' Corrigan would also start playing gorillas, and no doubt they competed for roles in every movie requiring a gorilla! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that ANY movie paper items from this serial are incredibly rare. We have only previously auctioned two one-sheets (25 years ago and 8 years ago), three lobby cards, two heralds, a glass slide, and a Swedish poster from this movie (and NO other movie paper of any kind) until we received this lobby card! We are also currently auctioning two other scene cards and a title card in three separate auctions. Also note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has. Condition: very good to fine. A small piece of the top left blank corner was detached and someone performed restoration to that area. Otherwise, the card is in nice condition! Learn More about condition grades
