An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 28 1/2" x 41" [72 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) Rocky, the classic 1976 John G. Avildsen (winner of the Best Director Academy Award for this film) Philadelphia Pennsylvania boxing sports action romantic melodrama ("His whole life was a million-to-one shot."; "Written by Sylvester Stallone"; winner of the Best Picture Academy Award; produced by Irwin Winkler) starring Sylvester Stallone (nominated for the Best Actor Academy Award for this film; in the title role as Rocky Balboa), Talia Shire (nominated for the Best Supporting Actress Academy Award for this film; as Adrian), Burt Young (nominated for the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for this film), Carl Weathers (as Apollo Creed), Burgess Meredith (nominated for the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for this film; "as Mickey"), and Butkus Stallone (as Butkus the dog!). Note this film was released late in 1976 and all of the first release U.S. posters have a 1977 NSS number on them. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this is an incredibly rare poster. It measures 28 1/2" x 41" [72 x 104 cm], and it has printer alignment marks in the extreme outer borders, so those might relate to why it does not measure the standard 27" x 41". We have never auctioned it before, but we have seen one reported auction result from another auction that says it sold for $5,975 (and the measurements on that poster were incorrectly reported, because that poster also had the same printer alignment marks this one has, but that poster was folded, so it is surely not the same example as this poster, which was never folded, and this poster is in much better condition than that poster). We initially thought that this poster was created after this movie moved from first run theaters to neighborhood theaters and drive-ins, BUT AN ADVANCED POSTER EXPERT E-MAILED US MORE INFORMATION ABOUT THIS POSTER. He says that it is a "wilding" poster that was posted all over New York City when the movie was first in theaters (a friend of his recalls seeing it posted on buildings at that time) and that it is an uncut printer's test! It has a completely different image of Stallone and Weathers punching in the ring, with "Apollo, The Champ vs. The Italian Stallion" above the image, and this is of course completely different from both the "pre-Awards" regular one-sheet and the "post-awards" regular one-sheet, and is many times more rare and has a far superior image! What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good to fine. The poster was never folded. It had a crease in the black background to the right of the "Y" of the title that runs into the border, and a few tiny creases in the bottom black area. Overall, the poster was in very good to fine condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was nicely backed, and displays well! Learn More about condition grades
