Edna Ferber's The Expert, the 1932 Archie Mayo old-man-young-boy friendship comedy ("The grandest pair of pals that ever walked the earth!"; "The laugh tear hit of the season!"; "Based on the story 'Old Man Minick'" by Edna Ferber) starring Charles 'Chic' Sale, Dickie Moore, Lois Wilson, Ralf Harolde, and Adrienne Dore. Note that Charles 'Chic' Sale was an actor who specialized in playing feisty old men, and yet they used an image of him out of makeup on the one-sheet for this movie. Also note that the source novel was written by Edna Ferber, who had had many great successes, and that the play adaptation was by Ferber and George S. Kaufman, and yet this movie adaptation was not a major success, likely confounding the Warner Bros. executives who green-lighted it into production! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography.
