Barton monster horror spoof comedy ("It's a grand New idea for Fun!"; the eighth Universal Frankenstein movie, and this time they added their #1 comedy team to both liven up the series, and to inject comedy; many people fondly remember this as their favorite of the 1940s Frankenstein movies!; "Jeepers! The Creepers are after Bud and Lou!"; "The laughs are MONSTERous! Bud and Lou are in a stew when they tangle with the Titans of Terror!"; "The monsters of menace vs the masters of Mirth!") starring Bud Abbott, Lou Costello (Abbott and Costello), Lon Chaney Jr. ("The Wolf Man played by Lon Chaney"), Bela Lugosi (returning as Dracula after being long absent from the role; "Dracula played by Bela Lugosi"), Glenn Strange (in the title role, playing the Frankenstein monster; "The Monster played by Glenn Strange"), Lenore Aubert, Jane Randolph, Frank Ferguson, Charles Bradstreet, and Vincent Price (in a cute cameo, as the voice of The Invisible Man at the end of the movie!) Important Added Info: Note that this classic and much loved horror movie was given a quick re-release in 1956. Best of all, many of the 1956 re-release posters have significantly better images than the 1948 first release ones! This is especially true with this half-sheet, which has large artwork images of the monsters (there were small photographic images on the 1948 half-sheet). Many collectors value this poster more highly than the 1948 half-sheet. Also note that this poster has been paperbacked. What is paperbacking? This means the poster was backed onto a light paper backing (acid-free), that is similar in feel to that of the original poster (it means that the poster must be handled carefully, as the backing does not give it much added strength, but it is similar to having an unrestored poster, and yet it has been properly preserved). It is a similar process to linenbacking, except that most collectors use linenbacking for one-sheets and paperbacking for half-sheets, inserts, window cards. What IS paperbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. very good. Prior to paperbacking, the poster was folded in half an extra time, causing two extra vertical folds. It has tiny creases and tiny bits of surface paper loss on parts of the foldlines. It had smudges and scuffs in the bottom black background area with pinholes, creases and tears around the edges. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to paperbacking. The poster was pretty well backed, but you can see slight signs of the above defects and the restoration of the above defects. At some point after the poster was paperbacked, it must have come in contact with moisture, because the back of the left 6" of the paperbacking has rippling near the center, above and below the middle of the poster. It does not really affect the front. The poster can certainly be displayed and enjoyed just as it is, or one might choose to have further restoration performed, either with or without rebacking the poster.
