An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked British Quad Movie Poster (BQ; Quad Crown; measures 30" x 40" [76 x 102 cm]) (Learn More) Fire Down Below, the 1957 Robert Parrish English/U.S. Caribbean romantic love triangle adventure thriller melodrama ("Spontaneous combustion!"; "Three of the Biggest in One of the Best!"; "Flaming out of the Caribbean... The big excitement, the burning excitement!!!"; "Beneath a land of wealth and beauty hides a secret that could kill millions. Undercover has never run so deep."; "Screenplay by Irwin Shaw"; "Fire! Fire! Fire!"; "Based on the novel by Max Catto"; "Produced by Irving Allen and Albert R. Broccoli", note that Broccoli went on to produce the James Bond series of movies, which Irving Allen did not want to produce, because he did not think that they were even good enough for television!; a few years later, Allen tried to make up for his massive blunder by producing the series of Matt Helm movies with Dean Martin, but the only way he could get Martin to star was to make him a partner, which meant that Martin made more money from The Silencers in 1966 than Sean Connery made on Thunderball the previous year, and Connery was not happy about that at all!) starring Rita Hayworth ("is the man-burnt woman of it..."), Robert Mitchum ("is the woman-scorched man of it..."), Jack Lemmon ("is the wild spark that sets it off..."), Herbert Lom, Bonar Colleano, and Bernard Lee. Note that producers Allen and Broccoli likely remembered Bernard Lee from this movie when they cast him as "M" in the James Bond series! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned one example of this British quad, which is a "country of origin" poster for this partially English movie, and that example has now been reconsigned to us, so this is still the only example we have ever auctioned! Also note that we have previously auctioned a completely different British quad that is full color and was printed by Charles & Read Ltd. This quad was printed by Stafford & Co. Ltd. and has a dayglo image (and we have never auctioned it before). We believe that both are surely from the first release of the movie. If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here. What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster had separation, tiny creases, and scuffs along most of the folds, with some tears and tiny paper loss in the right of the top border. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The restorer backed the poster "in the European style", meaning that they did not do restoration to the defects described above. Learn More about condition grades
