An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27 1/2" x 40 1/4" [70 x 102 cm]) (Learn More)

Irving Berlin's White Christmas, the classic 1954 Michael Curtiz post-World War II sisters holiday singing-and-dancing romantic musical (with classic "Lyrics and music by Irving Berlin"; "The most fabulous music-and-mirth show in motion picture history!"; "Joyous entertainment for every season, any year!!!!") starring Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye, Rosemary Clooney, Vera-Ellen, and Dean Jagger. Note that this was the first motion picture to be filmed in VistaVision! Also note that the title song "White Christmas" was first introduced in 1942 in the Fred Astaire/Bing Crosby movie "Holiday Inn", and it proved to be so popular that this movie was made, utilizing part of the plot of that earlier film, and reusing this song, which was now over a decade old, but it proved to be an even greater hit!

Important Added Info: Note that this poster, which has a completely different and many would say superior, image to that of the "regular" one-sheet, is somewhat of a mystery! It is clearly vintage, and there is no chance that it was made many years after the release of this movie (aside from the clearly vintage nature of the image and the paper, our consignor tells us he purchased it from a man who said he first got it in the 1950s. That man who had the poster lived in Japan, so we think it is extremely likely that this is the "international" one-sheet for this movie (and that would explain why it has no NSS info, and by looking at it through a bright light, we can tell that there were no stamps on the reverse). It also might explain why the image does not show the stars in "Christmas-like" attire, as they are on the regular one-sheet, because the Christmas connection would not have meant as much in a non-Christian country like Japan! The poster certainly has a great image, and we were unable to locate anyone who has ever had this poster (and we have never seen or heard of it before). There is another oddity about the poster. It measures 27 1/2" x 40 1/4". It could have slightly "stretched" or "shrunk" during the linenbacking process, but by measuring where the foldlines were (and it was folded like any other one-sheet of that period), we can see that it definitely originally measured very close to 27 1/2" x 40 1/4". Since regular one-sheets of this period measured 27" x 41", this is odd, but that adds to why it is likely an "international" one-sheet, which might measure differently. If anyone knows more about this poster, please e-mail us and we will post it here.

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster had tiny paper loss at the top crossfold, with some tiny bits of paper loss in the top half of the vertical fold and slightly in the top horizontal fold, with a lesser amount on the other folds. It had some small tears and tiny bits of paper loss in small parts of the blank borders. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was nicely backed, and displays well!
