An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie 7 3/4" x 11" [20 x 28 cm] Key Book Still (Learn More)

The Three Stooges are one the most loved comedy teams of all-time! They were famous for their violent slapstick comedy and their silly jokes! The Three Stooges went through several line-up changes which included Moe Howard, Curly (Jerry Howard), Larry Fine, Shemp Howard, Joe DeRita (more commonly known as Curly-Joe), and Joe Besser! Of course, any Stooge fan knows that they started in vaudeville with Moe Howard and Shemp Howard (brothers) and Larry Fine. When they switched to movies, Shemp dropped out of the act and their brother Jerry (Curly) took his place. Decades later, when Curly became sick, Shemp took his place, and later, Joe DeRita and Joe Besser took Shemp's place. It is also quite humorous that the Stooges were originally part of Ted Healy's act (billed as "Ted Healy and His Stooges"). When they started having success, they asked for a raise, and Healy fired them and replaced them with new "stooges", thinking that HE was the star, but things didn't work out the way he expected!
Important Added Info: Note that this great key book still was created in 1937, when The Three Stooges signed a deal with the food company Pillsbury for them to make a "3 Stooges Moving Picture Machine", which was given out or sold as a premium to people who bought Pillsbury products. Pillsbury made promo cards to advertise this premium, and this key book still shows each of the Three Stooges in tuxedos holding one of these promo cards, and Moe has a giant stack of at least 100 of them in his other hand! We have seen where one of these promo cards auctioned for $960, and there certainly were lots of them in existence at one time. This key book still on the other hand is likely the only surviving key book still showing them with the Pillsbury premium cards! Also note that this is one of four truly remarkable (and incredibly rare) 1930s Three Stooges stills we were consigned from the collection of a man who collected on The Three Stooges decades ago. We are auctioning them in four separate auctions, and any one of the four would be a centerpiece of a Three Stooges collection!

Note that this still is a key book still, mounted to a linen backing. Many studios spent extra money to have their most special photos, the key book stills, either backed with linen or printed on a heavy paper, both of which enhanced their durability. They had an extra 1" at the left or top, with punch holes, because of how they were stored. Key book stills are far more rare than regular stills, which has increased their popularity among collectors, since only a few keybooks were manufactured per film, and a key book still is guaranteed to be authentic.

Condition: very good to fine. The key book still is in excellent condition!
