Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: fair. Note that this poster has one of the most unusual "restorations" I have ever seen. The poster had tears and areas of paper loss scattered throughout, including a significant area of paper loss at top center, running from the top of the horse's head through the girl's upper chest and mouth, and including Desmond's right cheek and ear. There also were many tears and areas of paper loss around the edges, and some stains scattered throughout the poster. Overall, the poster was in poor condition prior to linenbacking. The person who "restored" it mounted it onto a linen backing that measured around the size of the actual poster, which was around 25" x 39", because, in addition to the paper loss around the edges, the poster had been trimmed. They then recreated the missing art scattered throughout, including the large area at top center described above, and they did a pretty good job of that. However, instead of restoring the borders, they simply put 1" wide white tape over each border of the poster, covering over most of the tears and paper loss in that area, which meant they had much less border area to restore. The restoration is very noticeable and is cracking along the bottom horizontal fold, with some tiny loss in that area. In spite of all this, the poster could still be displayed and enjoyed. It could be re-restored, but that would be a massive job that few would likely undertake. One would certainly prefer to find a better condition example of this poster, but we have never auctioned it before, and it might be many years before another example would surface.
