Pollard silent black African American anti-slavery melodrama ("Universal's mammoth motion picture"; "Universal's $2,000,000 motion picture!"; "Greatest moving picture on Earth"; "A show every one should see"; "Soul Stirring Scenes Never To Be Forgotten"; "See Families Torn Apart By Slavery"; "Hear - The Jubilee Shouters Beautiful Music and Songs"; "See - Actual Slave Auctions - True History Soul Stirring Scenes Never To Be Forgotten"; "The motion picture you can't forget to remember"; "Big as the heart of humanity"; "Presented And Filmed With Force"; "Positively Every Scene Authentic"; "by Harriet Beecher Stowe", who wrote the famous novel about the cruel mistreatment of a black African American at the hands of Simon Legree, surely one of the "baddest" villains ever in movies or literature; the book is said to have caused the Civil War) starring James B. Lowe (in the title role as Uncle Tom), Virginia Grey (as Eva), George Siegmann (as Simon Legree), Dick Sutherland, Margarita Fischer (as Eliza), Mona Ray (as Topsy), and Lassie Lou Ahern (as Little Harry) NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that on their most important movies of the 1920s, Universal created two sets of 8 cards lobby cards each, sometimes with completely different designs for each set, and sometimes where all the cards look similar. Sometimes there are two title cards for the two sets and sometimes not. We imagine these 14 cards are from two different sets, and they contain one title card, so it would seem that one title card and one scene is not present. If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Condition: good to very good. The title card has a jagged 1" tear and creases at top center, running into the top half of woman's face, and someone put clear tape on the back of that area. There is faint water staining in the upper left blank border and there are a few tiny tears in the blank borders. There are two pieces of tape on the back of the bottom border, but they were not put there for any restoration purpose. The card with the steamboat has some discoloration, deterioration and paper loss at bottom with discoloration at lower left and throughout the back of the card. The card with the close-up of Lowe and Fischer has some drip staining and discoloration at lower left. The two cards pictured at the end of our images have been trimmed around the blank borders (see our images). Overall the set is generally in pretty nice condition, and the scene cards have no tape whatsoever on the front or back, and they never have had any restoration of any kind!
