An Original Vintage Folded Circus Eight-Sheet Poster (measures 83" x 111" [211 x 282 cm]) (Learn More) Ringling Bros and Barnum & Bailey Circus, the 1944 poster advertising the circus, featuring Lawson Wood art of an elephant and chimp clowns! The modern version of the circus started in 1919 when the Barnum & Bailey's Greatest Show on Earth, a circus created by P. T. Barnum and James Anthony Bailey, was merged with the Ringling Bros. World's Greatest Shows. With weakening attendance and high operating costs, the circus closed on May 21st, 2017 after 146 years. If anyone knows more about this poster, please e-mail us and we will post it here. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Lawson Wood Important Added Info: Note that this circus poster (which is stamped "8SH." on the back) was printed in 4 sections designed to overlap. Also note that the theater that used this poster glued the pieces together before putting them on display (this is typical of many actual theater-used posters in multiple pieces). Also note that this poster needs to be sent in an oversized flat package, which measures roughly 17" x 25" x 2", so it will cost more to send than items that fit in our standard flat packages, especially if they are sent to non-U.S. addresses. Note that this item needs to be shipped in an oversized flat package. Most of these items absolutely can only be sent in flat packages, and could not possibly be rolled into a tube. Some of them might SEEM like they could be rolled in a tube, like a half-sheet, but they can't. The reason these items are in this auction is specifically because they CAN'T be rolled (because rolling any of them would damage them, even if they somehow can be rolled). So please bear in mind that this item must be sent in a LARGE flat package (the size of the package will depend on the size of the item when ready for shipping), and bear this added expense in mind before placing a bid on it. IN THE CASE OF EXTREMELY LARGE FLAT ITEMS, THE SHIPPING COST WILL BE VERY HIGH, SO PLEASE DO NOT BID WITHOUT THINKING ABOUT THAT ADDED SHIPPING AMOUNT, AND INCLUDE THAT AMOUNT IN WHAT YOU BID (so if you would pay $150, but the shipping is likely $100, then only bid $50). And those who live outside the U.S. and who do not have a U.S. address to ship to SHOULD NOT BID AT ALL ON EXTREMELY LARGE FLAT ITEMS, BECAUSE THEY COST HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS TO SEND OUTSIDE THE U.S. Condition: good. The poster was in 4 sections, but two pairs of them are glued together, so there are now two pieces. The poster is fragile and has tears and small areas of paper loss on parts of some folds. But the poster is mostly "all there", and after linenbacking by a talented professional, the poster will look fantastic, and it will likely require little paint restoration within the image, but please bear in mind its defects (and look at our super-sized image) and bear in mind the cost of restoration before bidding on this very rare poster.
