An Original 1920 Vintage Theatrical Unfolded Half-Sheet Movie Poster (1/2sh; measures 17 1/2" x 23 3/4" [44 x 60 cm]) (Learn More)

Madame DuBarry (released in the U.S. in 1920 as "Passion"), the 1919 Ernst Lubitsch German silent French Revolution romantic royalty melodrama ("The famous continental star is supported by a cast of 5,000 in this mighty epic of the screen."; about a very ambitious young lady who starts as a casino hostess, but manages to become the mistress to the king, all the while maintaining a relationship with her true love, and she remains with him throughout her life) starring Pola Negri (billed as "The Famous Continental Star 'Pola Negri'"; in the title role as Madame DuBarry), Emil Jannings, Harry Liedtke, Eduard von Winterstein, and Reinhold Schunzel. Note that this was the third of three silent versions of this movie in the 1910s. In 1930 came the first sound version with Norma Talmadge, called "Du Barry, Woman of Passion", then in 1935 came "I Give My Heart", an English movie. In 1943, there was "Du Barry Was a Lady", with Lucille Ball, but that was a comedy and was not from the same source as this movie and the earlier versions.

Artist: Hal Phyfe
Important Added Info: Note that this is an extremely rare poster. We auctioned a different style of this poster in 2019 (which had different art by Hal Phyfe, but which was trimmed in the same way, and it was in much lesser condition that this poster), and other than that one poster we have only sold ONE lobby card for this title and no other movie paper for the film ever! It is one of a collection of 25 silent half-sheets we are currently auctioning, in 25 separate auctions. Most of these are beyond rare, and many are likely "one of a kind"! This poster was never folded and it is fragile enough that it absolutely should not be rolled or attempted to be rolled. Therefore, it needs to be sent in a very large flat package that measures approximately 24" x 30". Please bear this added shipping expense in mind before bidding on this poster.

Condition: good. The poster was never folded. All of the poster's borders were trimmed off and it has some pinholes and smudges around the edges with a 3" tear in the bottom border. It has some smudges scattered through the image.
