An Original Vintage Theatrical Paperbacked Movie Title Lobby Card (LC TC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) Mr. Deeds Goes to Town, the classic 1936 Frank Capra (winner of the Best Director Academy Award for this film) romantic inheritance comedy ("A new laugh-and-love team takes America by storm!"; "Rocking America with laughter!"; "Story by Clarence Budington Kelland"; "Screen play by Robert Riskin"; "Another great Frank Capra Production"; nominated for the Best Picture Academy Award; about a small town "rube" from Mandrake Falls, Vermont, who inherits millions of dollars, and he goes to New York City to claim it, and everyone tries to swindle him out of the money, and a female reporter poses as his girlfriend to write stories about him, and he tries to give all the money away in loans to poor farmers who were hurt by the Great Depression, and he is given a sanity hearing, and he refuses to speak because of his girlfriend's deception, but it all works out quite nicely in the end!) starring Gary Cooper (nominated for the Best Actor Academy Award for this film; in the title role as Longfellow Deeds), Jean Arthur (as Babe Bennett), George Bancroft, Lionel Stander, Douglass Dumbrille, H.B. Warner, Margaret McWade, Margaret Seddon, Emma Dunn, Walter Catlett, and Margarete Matzenauer. This movie was re-made in 2002 (as "Mr. Deeds") by Adam Sandler, with himself in the starring role. Also note that the plot of this movie is very similar to Times Square Lady, which came out the previous year, but with the sex of the heroes reversed (and the source stories for the two were written by different people). Interestingly, this movie was originally titled "Opera Hat", and it seems that it centered on the part of the story where Cooper becomes the head of the New York Opera House, and while that subplot was retained, the plot was greatly expanded! Note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has. Note that this lobby card has been paperbacked. What is paperbacking? This means the lobby card was backed onto a heavy paper backing (acid-free), that is similar in feel to that of the original lobby card (except somewhat heavier). It is a similar process to linenbacking, except that most collectors use linenbacking for one-sheets and paperbacking for half-sheets, inserts, window cards, and lobby cards. What IS paperbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. Prior to paperbacking, the card had some pairs of staple holes and tiny pinholes around the edges, with a few smudges, scuffs, and tiny stains scattered in the image. Overall, the lobby card was in good condition prior to paperbacking. The card was pretty well backed, and displays pretty well, but you can see some signs of the restoration. After it was backed, it was roughly handled, and there is now small paper loss in the right blank corners. This will, of course, not show if the card is framed, and any talented restorer could restore those corners without re-backing the card. Learn More about condition grades
