An Art Print (measures 28" x 36" [71 x 91 cm]) (Learn More) Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway (often referred to as the Santa Fe or AT&SF) was one of the larger railroads in the United States and was founded in 1859. The railroad reached the Kansas-Colorado border in 1873 and Pueblo, Colorado in 1876. To create a demand for its services, the railroad set up real estate offices and sold farm land from the land grants that it was awarded by Congress. Despite the name, its main line never served Santa Fe, New Mexico, as the terrain was too difficult. The Santa Fe was a pioneer in intermodal freight transport, an enterprise that included a tugboat fleet, bus line and an airline. The AT&SF was the subject of a popular song, Harry Warren and Johnny Mercer's "On the Atchison, Topeka and the Santa Fe", written for the 1946 film The Harvey Girls. The railroad officially ceased operations on December 31, 1996, when it merged with the Burlington Northern Railroad to form the Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Railway. Artist: Adolph Heinze Condition: good to very good. There are creases, defects, areas of paper loss and tears of varying lengths along portions of the lower edge of the poster (partially repaired with tape from the back). The art itself is in pretty nice condition. Learn More about condition grades
