An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Card (LC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) The Circus Queen Murder, the 1933 Roy William Neill romantic crime mystery thriller ("Terror in every eye! Panic in every heart! Before the eyes of thousands she was murdered! But how? Why? By Whom?"; "Murder before your very eyes! - But how? ...Why? ...By whom?"; "From the novel by Anthony Abbot"; "Screen play by Jo Swerling"; about a District Attorney who goes on a vacation with his assistant to upstate New York, wanting to "rest", but they encounter a traveling circus, and get mixed up with "marital infidelity, murder, cruelty to animals, and cannibalism") starring Adolphe Menjou ("as the Famous Detective Thatcher Colt"), Greta Nissen, Ruthelma Stevens, Dwight Frye, and Donald Cook. Note that this movie and the prequel "The Night Club Lady" both starred Menjou as Thatcher Colt, and it seemed that this character could have gone onto a successful series like Philo Vance or The Thin Man, but for unknown reasons, the series was abandoned after the two entries. A knowledgeable collector tells us that (unfortunately!) there are no good copies of "The Night Club Lady" remaining, only "gray-market" versions of poor quality. This sequel does have a restored version which was shown at an event celebrating Columbia's 75th anniversary. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that first release 1933 movie paper from this movie is incredibly rare. We have only auctioned two one-sheets (one of each style) and a single lobby card from this movie until we received this lobby card! Also note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has. Condition: good. The card had a 2" tear in the right of the top border, with some paper loss along the tear. It had creases and scuffs around the edges, with some tiny paper loss and pinholes in the corners. A talented restorer gel backed the card (meaning they backed the card onto a gel material) and they then performed excellent restoration to the above defects, and then removed the gel backing, so that the card still exactly looks and feels like an original card (and it is!), with no backing at all. You can see slight signs of the above defects and their restoration, but overall, the card displays well. At some point after the card was repaired, it received a 1/2" tear in the lower right border, and someone put a piece of tape on the back of that area. Learn More about condition grades
