An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Style A One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) The Lady Eve, the classic 1941 Preston Sturges romantic gambling con man idle rich mistaken identity screwball comedy ("Barbara Stanwyck has Henry Fonda Bewitched and Bewildered in The Lady Eve"; "Barbara's Got Henry Falling For Her!..."; "Oops! There He Goes Again!"; "He Down For The Third Time..."; "Right into Barbara's arms... she's got him now - and does he love it!"; "Another Preston Sturges Hit!"; "This miss's kiss is packed with blisses! Should I run or make her Mrs.? Trouble is. She reminisces. What a dizzy Eden this is!"; "Screenplay based on a story by Monckton Hoffe"; "Written and directed by Preston Sturges"; about a nerdy anthropologist on an ocean liner voyage, who gets swindled by an old gambler/cheat and his beautiful daughter, and later, she tries to do it again by impersonating a completely different woman, but he is sure she is the woman he met before) starring Barbara Stanwyck, Henry Fonda, Charles Coburn, Eugene Pallette, Martha O'Driscoll, William Demarest, Eric Blore, Janet Beecher, Melville Cooper, and Robert Greig. Note that the credit "Screenplay based on a story by Monckton Hoffe" sounds reminiscent of a W.C. Fields credit for himself under a wacky pseudonym, but actually, Monckton Hoffe is a real man, who was an Irish playwright, who worked in Hollywood mostly in the late 1920s through the early 1940s, but "The Lady Eve" is far and away his most famous credit! Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned four examples of this poster and only two in the past 15 years! What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster had paper loss at the top crossfold extending into the bottom of Stanwyck's lower lip and the top of her chin below the lip (see our super-sized image). It had similar paper loss at the middle crossfold and no paper loss at the bottom crossfold. It had tears in the top right corner, extending into the middle of Fonda's credit and into the "dered" of "Bewildered" below it, and also into the yellow background below that. It had tears in the right of the bottom border extending into the credits area. It had pinholes and a few small tears in the rest of the borders. It had partial extra folds above and below the left one-third of the top horizontal fold in the yellow background area, with tiny paper loss in the back of Stanwyck's hair in that area. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to linenbacking. The person who backed the poster did a nice job doing so. From any reasonable viewing distance, it displays quite well. It is mostly when you look very closely at the poster that you see signs of the restoration of the above defects, and how many people do that? However, please bear in mind the defects the poster had and its restoration, and look at our super-sized image before bidding on this poster. Learn More about condition grades
