An Undated (probably 1950s) Re-Release Theatrical Folded French "Affiche" Movie Poster (23x32; measures 23 1/4" x 31 1/2" [59 x 80 cm]) (Learn More) Les Diaboliques (released in the U.S. as "Henri-Georges Clouzot's Diabolique" and in other English-speaking countries as "The Fiends"), the 1955 Henri-Georges Clouzot ("France's master of suspense") French romantic love triangle crime murder mystery suspense horror thriller ("Don't Reveal the Ending!"; "An Extraordinary New Motion Picture"; "Important: During the entire engagement no one will be seated in the theatre once the main feature has begun. Please observe the Time Feature Schedule carefully."; based on the novel by Pierre Boileau and Thomas Narcejac) starring Simone Signoret, Vera Clouzot, Paul Meurisse, Charles Vanel, Jean Brochard, Noel Roquevert, and Pierre Larquey. Note that Alfred Hitchcock wanted to buy the film rights to the source novel for this film, but Clouzot beat him to the punch. The authors subsequently wrote "D'Entre Les Morts", and Hitchcock filmed it as 1958's Vertigo! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Raymond Gid Important Added Info: Note that we have seen three versions of this French 22x32 poster for this classic French movie. The first poster has water color-like art, a Cinedis logo in the lower-right corner, and it is from 1955 first release. The second poster has the exact same image, but lacks the Cinedis logo (we have heard that this could be a printing mistake from the first release or it could be from a 1956 or 1957 re-release; to be safe we are calling it R50s but please keep this uncertainty in mind). The third poster has darker solid colors and it is from the early 1960s (perhaps 1960). The version offered here is the second poster. Also, note that this is a "country of origin" poster for this French movie! Finally, note that this poster was folded at one time but has been laying flat for a long time and will be sent rolled in a tube. Condition: poor to fair. The poster is in much lesser condition. There are several defects scattered along the edges and foldlines/crossfolds and there are several significant areas of foldline and/or crossfold separation. Many of the defects have been repaired with tape from the back that may bleed through to the front. It is fully separated along the vertical foldline and that is held together by tape. The poster is in urgent need of restoration, and certainly a competent restorer could repair the defects described above, but please bear in mind the cost of restoration before placing a bid.
