Date Sold 8/4/2024Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) Hi-Yo Silver, the 1940 John English & William Witney cowboy western (a feature version of the 1938 serial, "The Lone Ranger"; like the serial, this movie is set up unusually, with five men suspected of being The Lone Ranger, and the audience has no clue as to which man it is; they used Billy Bletcher's voice for the actual Lone Ranger, so that when each of the five men spoke their lines, the audience would not be able to pick them out as having the same voice as The Lone Ranger!) starring Silver Chief (billed as "The Wonder Horse"), Lee Powell, Bruce Bennett (billed as "Herman Brix"), Chief Thundercloud (as Tonto), Lynne Roberts, Stanley Andrews, George Cleveland, William Farnum, and Hal Taliaferro. Note that in order to make this feature version, which greatly condensed the serial, coherent, they added a framing device with narration that helped fill in the gaps of the material they deleted from the serial. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that ANY movie paper from this movie is incredibly rare. We have only previously auctioned a one-sheet, a window card, a title lobby card, and a scene lobby card from this movie (and NO other movie paper of any kind), and that one-sheet has now been reconsigned to us, so this is still the only example we have ever auctioned! It is clearly one of the most rare serial one-sheets of this time! What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster had tiny paper loss at the crossfolds and tiny bits of paper loss and a few creases along parts of hte folds. It had pinholes in the corners. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The restorer backed the poster "in the European style", meaning that they did not do restoration to the defects described above. Learn More about condition grades
