An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) Sleepy-Time Tom, the 1951 William Hanna & Joseph Barbera (Hanna-Barbera) Tom and Jerry animated animation cartoon cat-and-mouse chase comedy short (produced by Fred Quimby) featuring the voices of Daws Butler, Paul Frees, and Lillian Randolph (as Mammy Two-Shoes). Note that Tom and Jerry is a classic series of cartoons created by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera. The first one was created in 1940, and there as a total of 114 cartoons through 1957. Seven of these won Academy Awards for Best Cartoon, tying for most wins with Walt Disney's Silly Symphonies. There were around 50 more cartoons created after the first run ended, through the early 2000s, and there were also TV shows based on these classic characters. Some people have criticized the cartoons for their "excessive violence", but actually no blood or gore was ever shown in any of them, and this type of violence is commonly referred to as "cartoon violence". Many of the Tom and Jerry cartoons are extremely clever and make wonderful use of music. They are not nearly as appreciated today as they should be, but in their day, they were among the most popular cartoons of the 1940s! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned two examples of this poster in all our years of auctioning! What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good. The poster had tiny paper loss at the crossfolds. It had tears and tiny paper loss in the right half of the top fold and in the top quarter of the vertical fold. It had paper loss in the center of the top blank border and someone put paper tape on the back of the top center, both on the back of the paper loss and also on the back of separation in the top 3" of the vertical fold. The poster had tiny pinholes around the edges. Overall, the poster was good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. Many years ago, someone mounted the poster onto a thin linen with no excess, and they even put the linen over the tape on the back of the top center, and also on the back of two small pieces on the top fold. The poster was roughly handled, and there are now creases in the bottom right corner, both in the poster and in the linen. While the poster can be displayed as it is, it certainly would make sense to have a restorer remove it from the thin linen and then do a modern linenbacking, but either way, the new owner will have a cool poster to display on their wall!
