An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (measures 27" x 41") (Learn More) Captain Horatio Hornblower, the 1951 Raoul Walsh English British Naval military war ship action seafaring biography ("All the Seas of the World are its Stage!"; "This ocean will be mine-- and so will the woman!"; "Making it was the mighty adventure of the screen! Seeing it will be yours!"; "From the Novel by C.S. Forester") starring Gregory Peck (in the title role as a fictionalized version of Captain Horatio Hornblower), Virginia Mayo, Robert Beatty, Moultrie Kelsall, Terence Morgan, James Kenney, James Robertson Justice, Christopher Lee, and Alec Mango NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Condition: very good. This poster was linenbacked, and it had defects which were repaired during the linenbacking process (which we describe below, as well as the quality of the restoration, if I thought there was something about the restoration worth commenting on!). You should also look at our "super-sized" image of the actual poster (we are the only major auction company we know of that gives accurate detailed pre-restoration information about linenbacked posters to our bidders, but we wish everyone did!). the poster had tiny holes at the crossfolds and minor wear along the foldlines. The poster had missing pieces and tears in the blank borders, and the person who did the restoration put new blank white paper over all the borders to even out the appearance (but the small writing at the bottom of the poster was not covered over). This is a common technique used by several top restorers. It is done so well that the majority of collectors are not even aware it has been done, and many do not feel it to be a significant detraction (since it is only blank white area).
