Date Sold 5/19/2016Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Card (LC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) Confessions of a Co-Ed ("...from her diary"), the 1931 David Burton & Dudley Murphy pregnant girl pre-Code bad girl melodrama starring Phillips Holmes, Sylvia Sidney, Norman Foster, Claudia Dell, Florence Britton, and a super low-billed Bing Crosby (who played one of a trio of singers called "The Rhythm Boys"). Note that Phillips Holmes had made an impression in some movies in the late 1920s. In 1931, he would get the lead in the first version of "An American Tragedy", which made it seem like he would become a major star, but that didn't materialize. He had a major affair with Libby Holman, but that was certainly complicated, and when they broke up, she immediately married his brother! Oddly, years later, Holman would have another very complicated affair with Montgomery Clift, who played the same part in the remake of "An American Tragedy", retitled "A Place in the Sun". Sadly, Holmes died in a plane crash in 1942. I am very surprised no one has made a movie about his life, or a joint movie about him and Libby Holman! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that first release 1931 movie paper from this pre-Code bad girl movie is incredibly rare. We have never auctioned even a single poster from this movie (and only this very same lobby card, which we previously auctioned in 2006). The same card has been reconsigned to us now, and it is STILL the only lobby card or poster we have ever seen from this movie. We would LOVE to see what any of the posters look like! Also note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has. Condition: fair to good. The card has darkened, typical of Paramount lobby cards of this period. There are staple holes and small stains around the edges. There are white stains in the bottom center of the image and some faint smudges and scuffs scattered throughout. Obviously, this wonderful card could be restored, but bear its defects and cost of restoration in mind before placing a bid. Learn More about condition grades
