An Original Vintage Theatrical Paperbacked Window Card Movie Poster (WC; measures 14" x 22" [36 x 56 cm]) (Learn More) Hoopla (also released as "Hoop-La"), the 1933 Frank Lloyd pre-Code romantic comedy melodrama ("From a play by John Kenyon Nicholson"; about a "hula dancer" in a carnival, who, on a bet, tries to seduce the carnival boss' son, and ends up falling hard in love with him) starring Clara Bow (in her final movie!), Preston Foster, Richard Cromwell, Herbert Mundin, James Gleason, and Minna Gombell. Note that this was a remake of the part-talkie movie from 1928, "The Barker", and those who have seen the movie say that Bow is sensational and super sensual in this, her final movie. She had the gift of making the audience like her, even though she played a character with no morals, and her hula dancing in the movie also receives rave reviews. Most fans say that had she not had her serious personal problems, she would have likely been a major rival to Jean Harlow for roles like these throughout the 1930s! Important Added Info: Note that first release movie posters from this 1933 Clara Bow movie are incredibly rare. Other than a much lesser condition photographic half-sheet that we auctioned in 2001, the only other poster we auctioned was a one-sheet in 2002, which sold for $8,151 (and while it has a very nice image, it is a close up headshot of Clara Bow). This window card, which we have never auctioned before, has a wonderful full-length image of her wearing an extremely sexy outfit! Also note that this poster has been paperbacked. What is paperbacking? This means the poster was backed onto a paper backing (acid-free), that is similar in feel to that of the original poster (except somewhat heavier). It is a similar process to linenbacking, except that most collectors use linenbacking for one-sheets and paperbacking for half-sheets, inserts, window cards, and lobby cards. What IS paperbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. Prior to paperbacking, the window card had part of its blank top trimmed off, and it had a few smudges and scuffs scattered in the image, with minor border wear. Overall, the window card was in very good condition prior to paperbacking. The window card was nicely backed, and displays well! Learn More about condition grades
