An Original Vintage Linenbacked Russian World War I Poster (measures 27 1/4" x 39 3/4" [69 x 101 cm]; poster measures 27 1/2" x 48" including the snipes at top and bottom; see below) (Learn More)

War Loan (literal translation of the Cyrillic title), the circa 1917 Russian World War I (WWI) War Bond poster (with a tagline that translates to "Forward for the Motherland ") encouraging citizens to support the war efforts, and featuring art of a medieval soldier riding a horse with the Russian Imperial Standard in the background. Note that we have seen a version of this poster which featured English snipes and was used in the U.S. to encourage people to donate so that medical aid could be delivered to Russia.
Artist: Maksimov
Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned one example of this Russian poster, and it sold for $435! However, that poster did not have the snipes that were added to the top and bottom of this poster (that poster measured 27 1/4" x 39 3/4"). We are also currently auctioning a different poster, which has the same information at the top and bottom as this poster, but on that poster (which has a completely different image) those areas are printed on, and that poster was printed in the U.S. to raise money for Russian ambulances. THIS poster is actually a Russian war loan poster that was "re-purposed" to be used to raise money for this same cause, by adding snipes to the top and bottom, and the person who linenbacked it chose to leave the snipes on (although they could have had them removed).

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. As noted above, the poster had snipes glued to the top and bottom. It had tiny paper loss on parts of some folds and around the edges, more so in the bottom of the lower snipe. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was nicely backed, and displays well!
