Thrill to them together in a suspense-romance directed by the man who did 'Rebecca'"; "Screen play by Samson Raphaelson, Joan Harrison, Alma Reville [Hitchcock's wife]"; "Based on the novel 'Before the Fact' by Francis Iles"; nominated for the Best Picture Academy Award) starring Cary Grant, Joan Fontaine (winner of the Best Actress Academy Award for this film), Sir Cedric Hardwicke, Nigel Bruce, Dame May Whitty, Lumsden Hare, Vernon Downing, and Auriol Lee. Note that there is controversy about the ending of this movie! Many people say that Hitchcock intended the movie to end with Grant killing Fontaine, and that the studio insisted that he change it (to preserve Grant's positive public image), but others say that this is an urban legend, and that the movie was always intended to end the way it did! Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned this 1953 re-release insert (and we have only once auctioned the first release insert, which sold for $1,810)! What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster had tiny surface paper loss on the folds. It had smudges, stains, pinholes, tears, and paper loss around the edges. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was pretty well backed, but you can see signs of the above defects and the restoration of the above defects. Note that either the restorer who mounted the poster did not leave any excess linen around the edges of the poster, or possibly the owner of the poster chose to carefully trim off the excess, so that the poster would fit in a frame.
