Date Sold 7/9/2020Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Unfolded Movie Window Card (WC; measures 14" x 22" [36 x 56 cm]) (Learn More) Convention City was the 1933 Archie Mayo romantic love triangle all-star comedy ("With 10 great laff-stars!"; "For a lot of fun and some real laughs! Come and join us!"; Warner Bros packed this movie with lots of the actors they had under contract at this time, and part of the plot has Joan Blondell as a "hostess" for a hotel, employed to "entertain" convention goers; she is romanced by CEO Adolphe Menjou, but she really loves poor salesman Dick Powell) starring Joan Blondell, Adolphe Menjou, Dick Powell, Mary Astor, Guy Kibbee, Frank McHugh, Patricia Ellis, Ruth Donnelly, Hugh Herbert, and Grant Mitchell. The above brief plot summary is just a tiny portion of the "goings on" in this ultra salacious "pre-Code" movie. This was a movie that pushed the limits of what sexual situations could be shown or talked about to never before seen limits, and it is widely credited with being one of the main reasons the infamous Hays Code was so heavily enforced soon after! Note that sadly, all prints of this movie have been lost, and it has not been seen in many years. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that ANY movie paper from this movie is incredibly rare. We have only previously auctioned five stills and a glass slide, and no other movie paper of any kind from this movie until we received this window card! And since the film itself is lost, having virtually no posters exist is doubly sad. It may be many years before we again auction any first release poster or lobby card from this movie. Condition: good. The card's top, left, and right blank corners were cut off at a diagonal, and there are nail holes around the edges (some enlarged), with a few scattered in the image. There are faint smudges and stains scattered throughout the image, more so in the title area and below it. This is the sort of card that responds really well to professional restoration. It is likely that much or all of the smudges and stains can be removed through chemical means, after which the card will look fantastic. Certainly, one would prefer a better example of this card, but, as noted above, there are really NO posters surviving from this, so a restored version of this card is "as good as it gets".
