An Original Vintage Linenbacked Circus Poster (measures 28 1/4" x 42" [72 x 107 cm]) (Learn More)

Circus Dogs, the circa 1930s circus poster featuring art of several dogs doing various circus tricks. Since there is a blank area on the top of the poster, it was obviously used for many different circuses, where they could write the specific name of the circus and the play dates in the top blank area. It has a resemblance to English posters we have seen, so it certainly could be from England. If anyone knows more about this poster, please e-mail us and we will post it here.
If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.

What IS linenbacking? Learn More

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: fair to good. The poster had tears and areas of paper loss along parts of the foldlines and some creases, tears, smudges, and stains scattered throughout. It had pinholes, stains, tears, and tiny paper loss around the edges. There were numbers and letters written on the back of the top half of the poster that bleed through to the front (most noticeably in the bottom of the top blank area, but also in the light colored areas in the top half of the poster). Someone stamped "NO COMMERCIAL VALUE" in the body of the dog at middle right. Overall, the poster was in fair condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was pretty well backed, but you can clearly see signs of the above defects and the restoration of the above defects. Please read our description above and look at our super-sized image before placing a bid on this poster.
