An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (27" x 41") (Learn More) the international release of Superman Flies Again, the 1954 George Blair & Thomas Carr compilation of 3 episodes of "The Adventures of Superman" TV comic book superhero fantasy series ("Jet Ace"; "Dog Who Knew Superman"; "Clown Who Cried") starring George Reeves (in the title role as Superman/Clark Kent), Noel Neill (as Lois Lane), Jack Larson (as Jimmy Olsen), John Hamilton (as Perry White), and Robert Shayne (as Inspector Henderson). Note that this was one of five compilation movies created out of episodes of this classic TV series. They were apparently solely shown outside the U.S. (which makes sense, since the episodes had been shown on TV in the U.S.), and we know that it is likely that one-sheets and lobby card sets were created for all five compilation features, but one-sheets from them are quite rare, and lobby cards are even more rare (which also makes sense, since lobby cards would have been far less likely to have been used in other countries). The other four titles were Superman and the Jungle Devil, Superman's Peril, Superman in Exile, and Superman in Scotland Yard. The only reason we know so much about these titles is because a pressbook was created for all five features, and we once auctioned it, and it sold for $412! This poster was linenbacked, and one of the following is true: either the poster had very minor defects, and was well backed, OR it had more significant defects, but they were extremely well restored, OR it had some minor defects that were not completely restored, and are somewhat noticeable. You can tell which of the above is the case for this particular poster by reading our "pre-restoration" description and also by looking at our "super-sized" image of the actual poster (we are the only major auction company we know of that gives accurate detailed pre-restoration information about linenbacked posters to our bidders, but we wish everyone did!). The poster had much tape down the back of the vertical foldline. After the tape was removed, there were areas of paper loss down the entire vertical foldline, and areas where the paper was discolored. Other than the damage on the vertical foldline, the image area of the poster was in pretty good condition, but the borders had creases, tears, smudges, and small areas of paper loss. The person who did the restoration did a pretty good job of restoring the area down the vertical foldline, but you can see signs of the restoration, even from a distance. But I would think many collectors would be happy to display this poster on their wall! Learn More about condition grades
