An Original Vintage Theatrical Paperbacked Style A Half-Sheet Movie Poster (1/2sh; measures 22" x 28" [56 x 71 cm]) (Learn More) The Scoundrel, the 1935 Ben Hecht & Charles MacArthur supernatural ghost fantasy romantic melodrama ("Written, directed, and produced by Ben Hecht and Charles MacArthur"; about a famous book editor whom everyone knows, but no one really likes; he uses and abuses women and scorns everyone; he is killed in a plane crash and appears before God, who sends him back to Earth for one month, telling him that if he can find someone who will love him and cry over him during that time, he will go to Heaven, but otherwise, he will spend all of eternity wandering the Earth without finding peace) starring Noel Coward, Julie Haydon, Hope Williams, Rosita Moreno, and Martha Sleeper. Note that the year prior to this movie, famed screenwriters Ben Hecht and Charles MacArthur independently produced, wrote, and directed "Crime Without Passion", an unusual movie starring Claude Rains. They followed it with this equally unusual movie, and they got legendary playwright Noel Coward to play the lead role! This movie was one of four that they directed and wrote between 1934 and 1936. They found far greater success as a screenwriting team, and wrote many great classics! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that ANY movie paper from this movie is incredibly rare. We have only previously auctioned a mini window card and four stills from this movie until we received this half-sheet (and no other posters at all)! Note that this poster has been paperbacked. What is paperbacking? This means the poster was backed onto a paper backing (acid-free), that is similar in feel to that of the original poster (except somewhat heavier). It is a similar process to linenbacking, except that most collectors use linenbacking for one-sheets and paperbacking for half-sheets, inserts, window cards, and lobby cards. Note that because this poster was paperbacked onto a thicker paper backing, it CAN'T be sent rolled (someone could conceivably roll it or try to do so, but we think it would have a strong chance of lessening its condition, so we will only send it in a very large flat package, unless the buyer insists, and then they would be responsible for any damage). What IS paperbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. Prior to paperbacking, the poster was never folded. It had some tears and paper loss around the edges, but almost all of it was solely in the blank borders, except for a very tiny bit. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to paperbacking. The poster was nicely backed, and displays well! Learn More about condition grades
