Date Sold 6/27/2019 Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. 5 1948 Re-Release Theatrical Movie Lobby Cards (LCs; measure 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) Foreign Correspondent, the 1940 Alfred Hitchcock ("Directed by Alfred Hitchcock, the man who gave you 'Rebecca'") World War II (WWII) spy espionage newspaper journalism romantic suspense thriller ("The thrill spectacle of the year!"; "The dramatic conflicts... of today's boldest adventurers!"; nominated for the Best Picture Academy Award; about an American newspaper reporter stationed in London on the eve of World War II, and he tries to expose Nazi spies) starring Joel McCrea, Laraine Day, Herbert Marshall, George Sanders, Albert Bassermann (nominated for the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for this film; billed as "Albert Basserman"), Robert Benchley, Edmund Gwenn, Charles Wagenheim, and Eduardo Ciannelli. Note that this movie dealt with World War II and spies, and it was a clear statement from director Hitchcock that the war would soon involve every country, especially the United States, because there was no way to remain "neutral" when all those around you are at war. Finally, note that the movie credits the screenwriting to Charles Bennett and Joan Harrison, and notes that additional dialog was written by Robert Benchley and James Hilton (celebrated author of Lost Horizon and Goodbye, Mr. Chips), and Ben Hecht and Richard Maibaum apparently also contributed dialog, although they were uncredited! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Condition: good to very good. Card #6 was printed somewhat oddly (it has faint blue vertical lines scattered through the image area and borders at top - see our super-sized image). It has some green ink staining on back at right but it does not have much effect on the front except in one tiny dot in the outer blank border edge. It has a scuff mark at upper left and a tiny blank border tear at right. Card #5 has a few small dot stains in portions of the credits at lower center. The cards otherwise have only a few smudges around the edges or other very minor edge defects and they are in pretty nice condition and they have no tape whatsoever on the front or back, and they never have had any restoration of any kind!
